Communications Policy

Introduction

Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association (BNJCA) recognises its moral and legal obligation to provide a safe and healthy work environment for staff, voluntary workers and visitors and will endeavour to ensure that these people do nothing to place themselves or members of the public at risk of injury or illness.

Accountability and Governance

The Management Committee is accountable for the management of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) for BNJCA.

The OHS Administrator is responsible for:

  • Providing a safe workplace including safe plant and systems of work
  • Ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and standards
  • Developing and implementing work health and safety policies and procedures
  • Overseeing induction, training and OHS paperwork
  • Ensuring activities required at review dates are actioned
  • Informing the Management Committee on a quarterly basis of OHS compliance
  • Informing the Management Committee of improvement opportunities as they arise

Staff and Volunteers are responsible for:

  • Following all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Reporting all hazards identified to the OHS Coordinator
  • Complying with lawful instructions
  • Not behaving in a wilfully reckless manner

BNJCA is committed to encouraging consultation and cooperation between the OHS Coordinator, staff and voluntary workers. This will involve all parties collaborating on any workplace changes likely to affect their safety, health and welfare.

Process

The process for managing OHS should be suited to the scale of our operation, practically based and easy to administer. This process uses the OHS Checklist as both an audit list and an action register for where items do not meet requirements.

An audit of the items on the OHS Checklist must be conducted every three months.

Reporting

The compliance status of items on the OHS Checklist must be reported to the Church Council every quarter.

The Church Council may request an update on progress of items on the OHS Checklist at any time.

Monitoring of Performance

After any significant incident, event or change, an analysis should be conducted to determine both successes and failures in managing and responding to the incident, event or change. Learnings from this analysis should prompt changes that are needed to improve the safety of the BNJCA work environment for staff, volunteers and visitors.

The OHS Checklist must be updated with any new information from such analysis.

Review of this Policy

This policy is subject to regular review by the Administration Committee and will be amended (as appropriate) to reflect current best practice in communications with stakeholders.  Acceptance of a new release of the policy will be minuted in a Management Committee meeting.

Inconsistency with the Association’s Constitution

To the extent there is any inconsistency between this policy and the BNJCA Constitution, the Constitution will prevail.
