24 2022 Ian Rushton

Ian has been an active member of the management Committee of Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association since 2013.

During this time Ian has undertaken various roles.

Ian was a bowling Selector for the Under 12 Representation teams for a number of years. He has assisted with the selection of our U12 teams for approximately 12 years, always being one of the first to put his hand up with trials.

In the later years, Ian has undertaken the onerous task of all things My Cricket. This includes reviewing of all player statistics to ensure they are correct, being the principal Committee member in finalising any dispute match resolutions, checking of statistics from game day imputs across all junior matches within the Brisbane North Junior competitions and finalising all competition ladders in My Cricket. All of this ensures that the identification of team and individual player trophy awards winners each year are correct.

With the pending transfer of all statistics to a new platform in the near future, Ian continues to work on the verification of these vital player statistics.

Thanks Ian and congratulations; a very worthy recipient of Life Membership.

23 2021 Geoff Cowles OAM

Life Membership is a privilege and an honour for a person to receive and Geoff Cowles OAM certainly fits into that category. At BNJCA 2021 we welcome Geoff as our latest Life Member.

Geoff commenced assisting the Rules committee back in 1999 and has continued on to being the head guru when it comes to the right wording to be recorded into our rule book on any rule change. The wording explanation of a Rule has to be clearly constructed such that it is able to be read and understood by all. Geoff is excellent at that task.

Geoff has also been a stalwart of Ferny Districts Cricket club for many years, receiving life membership at the club. His work in the canteen is well known and his attention to detail for the club stats into MyCricket is legendary. His strong support for BNJCA running the Ian Healy Cup has been excellent with the Ferny club hosting teams on 2 ovals every year with Geoff being host at the canteen for the week.

Congratulations Geoff on your Life Membership.

22 2020 Kathy Casey

Kathy commenced at Albany Creek Cricket Club in 1999 as a parent when her son Scott started playing for the club.
Kathy has been actively involved with the Albany Creek Cricket Club committee since 2000 taking on various roles including Statistician, Registrar, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster. She still maintains all the club stats for Albany Creek teams in both the Brisbane North and Warehouse competitions. In 2003 Kathy assisted Ray Wonnacott with the Statistics for the Ian Healy Cup. Then in 2004 she took over this role completely and has done so up to the present. This role has evolved over time from manually entering all the stats from each game for the carnival to the present day where they are entered on MyCricket. Kathy also organises the certificates for Award recipient and carnival winners. For the past four or five years she has entered all of the 14 teams competing in the Healy Cup into MyCricket and is the ‘go to’ person for all of the teams participating in the HC for any problems involving MyCricket throughout the carnival.During the Healy Cup Kathy also co-ordinates lunches for each of the competing teams. Over the past few years this has become a massive job due to the increasing number of players and officials with Special Dietary Requests.
21 2018 Shane Mills

Life Membership for a person is the highest honour an organisation or association can bestow upon a person. It is a way that we can say thank you for all the support and services they have provided over the years.

Tonight I call on Shane Mills from Everton Districts to come forward and receive BNJCA Life Membership.

Shane has been a long time cricket tragic and in his younger days or some say in his hey-day he was a long haired demon fast bowler. As you can see like most of us hair has a tendency to disappear. He is still playing cricket today however his bowling speed has reduced somewhat, actually I would say considerably. In the mid 90s Shane joined Everton Districts Cricket Club and not long after that was elected on to the club committee and by 1998 was Club Treasurer a position which he still holds. In 1998 he started attending the BNJCA delegate meetings.

In 1999 he was elected as the Everton Districts delegate for BNJCA and still is in this role – that is some twenty years.

Since 1999 he has acted as a Coach or mentor of the coaches for many teams especially the Under 8/9 Teams. Helping teams and parents learn rules and setting up junior fields and understanding the game. In 2005 to 2008 he became either the scorer or the manager of his son’s BNJCA representative teams. In 2006 he started assisting in the selection of BNJCA Under 13 representative teams and currently continues to do so, 13 years on.

His contribution to Brisbane North Junior Cricket has been, and still is immense. A most worthy Life Member, congratulations to you Shane Mills.

20 2017 Tony Bath

Tony has been involved with BNJCA since commencing as a scorer for one of our Representative teams in 2011. From this time on he has been involved in coaching, managing and scoring for BNJCA Representative teams.

With his past cricket experience, he has been a selector for our Representative teams over the seasons. Also, in Season 2011/2012 he was elected to our BNJCA Management Committee. During this period, he has been on our Season Review sub-committee, our Building subcommittee along with various other sub-committees and now is our current Treasurer.

In a more detailed form he has been:- 2011 Scorer Under 12 Gold, 2011-2012 Committee Member, 2012-2013 Committee Member, 2012-2013 Manager Under 12 BNJCA Championship Team, 2013-2014 Committee Member, 2013-2014 Scorer Under 13 BNJCA Championship Team, 2013-2014 Coach BNJCA Development Team – Ipswich, 2013-2014 Season Review Committee, 2014-2015 Committee Member, 2014-2015 Scorer BNJCA Under 14 Championship Team, 2014-2015 Season Review Committee, 2015-2016 Committee Member, 2015-2016 Scorer BNJCA Under 15 Championship Team, 2015-2016 Season Review Committee and 2016-208 BNJCA Treasurer.

19 2016 John Powell

John, or as we know him JP, spent the early years of the 2000s at Pine Rivers Cricket Club with his son Brad and was appointed to the position of Vice President in 2006.

Then, in 2007 he was elected to the position of President of Pine Rivers Junior Cricket Club. During his 2 years of Presidency the Senior Club was going through some very tough times financially and JP to his credit along with his Junior committeemen, Adrian Raven and Richard Clay, managed to ensure the Senior body survived the hardship and got them back into a viable financial position that allowed them to survive. Also he worked very closely with The Lakes College and they fielded some combined teams with them in the BNJCA, helping them become established. In season 2010 – 2011 The Lakes Cricket Club became an affiliated BNJCA Club. During this period he was the Pine Rivers delegate to the BNJCA.

In 2009 JP went to Ballina as the Manager of the Under 13 BNJCA Development team coached by “Reevesie” and he certainly enjoyed the week immensely. Here is where the memories of the bus trip home from Ballina in January 2009 kick in. He enjoyed the experience so much that he wanted to know what he would have to do to get involved in Coaching Representative teams in the future. It was an enjoyable trip home, questions and more questions; JP wanted to know everything about BNJCA. Having enjoyed the initial experience so much he continued to manage BN Representative teams through to the Under 16 team in 2011-2012.

During the time spent as a manager, in typical JP fashion, he not only acquired Coaching qualifications, culminating in his Level 2 Coaching Certificate, he also acquired valuable experience along the way by coaching club teams, Lords Taverners at Norths and was also involved in Senior Coaching at Northern Suburbs Cricket Club. He was appointed coach of the BNJCA Under 16 Championship team in December 2015 and they, under his tutelage, won the State title at the Queensland Junior Cricket State Championships.

Well you would think that he was very busy doing all this Coaching and Managing teams, well he was. However at the same time all this was happening he was elected to the BNJCA Management Committee in 2011 and the following year 2012 he was elected as BNJCA Vice President, a position he still holds today.

The Association is growing rapidly, 370 teams with playing numbers of 3,758 so there is much to do to ensure BNJCA operates effectively and JP in 2015 was given the task of restructuring the Management Committee and assigning portfolios to the committee members. This he has done very professionally and successfully, as is done in the business world. JP has been designated the Director of Coaching portfolio which he has taken to with great gusto and energy.

His most recent foray into Coaching was when he was approached by Queensland Cricket (QC) and asked to Coach one of the 4 teams of the QC Bulls Rookie Challenge in April 2016.

JP is held in very high esteem and I am sure I am not alone when I say this as I believe his fellow committeemen also have total respect for him and for the passion that he brings to the association.

He has a keen sense of humour and is quick witted with his repartee. As we know in our true Australian style, when we have so much respect for our colleagues, or should we say close friends, who I consider JP to be, then one designates a nick name, well I call him ‘the genius’ because that is exactly what he is and not only that but it is his passion that he brings in his quest to provide the best opportunities for our young cricketers.

One could go on and on about his contribution to cricket and BNJCA but we would be here all night, so to finish, with his input to BNJCA, with an enormous amount of time and energy and his professionalism I give you our latest Life member and deservedly so, John Powell.

18 2014 Keith Dudgeon

Keith was born in Cairns on 5th September 1946. He played 41 First Class Matches and 8 List A games between 1967-75. His statistics are there for you all to read on Cricinfo however there is much more to this man than being a top cricketer.

Keith Dudgeon was minuted as an attendee at the very first meeting run by our founders Errold La Frantz M.B.E., Cec Anstey O.A.M and Cliff Christensen which was held at Bishop Park in 1972, to discuss forming a junior cricket competition and Keith has been involved in junior cricket in some way ever since. Keith was very active in assisting the Committee in the running of the Valley Norths Zone 2 competition prior to the amalgamation of the Zones in 1998 to form the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association. During that time at Valley Norths Zone 2 he was a selector of Representative teams and an advisor to the Committee on the formulation of the Rules and the running of the Saturday morning competitions. As the numbers of players increased in Junior Cricket there was a push to introduce more player participation through a modified game of cricket and Keith was very much involved in introducing modified rules for cricket for the younger age groups.

He was also, in conjunction with Barry Richards the then CEO of Queensland Cricket, instrumental in introducing the Under 16 Lords Taverners competition in 1991-92. One of his many roles was as a Selector at the QJC Championships. They used to select a Queensland team from Under 16s and Keith was the City Selector and Ross Duncan the Country Selector. Keith coached the very first Under 16 Queensland Junior Cricket team. From that team there were two standout cricketers that were spoken about; one was Gary Hayden (Matthew’s Hayden’s elder brother) and the other, Alfie Langer, who both scored a prolific amount of runs.

On a personal note I first met Keith around 1984 when he approached me and asked me if he could coach my youngest son Dean. The answer was obviously yes. It was certainly worthwhile as my son progressed through to play First Grade cricket with Valley.
But it also benefitted me in that while the coaching sessions were happening I was acting like a sponge and taking in everything that Keith was instructing. It was an experience that has been of great assistance to me personally and it has stayed with me and been instrumental in my own coaching efforts. Keith further enhanced his coaching abilities when he attended the very first Level 3 coaching course in Queensland and from there became a coaching director for Queensland Cricket.

He has been a supporter of Junior Cricket for many years and has been a very generous sponsor to all of our Junior Clubs across the Association. He offered sponsorship of our Anstey/La Frantz and Reevesie Cup competitions by supplying the balls used and the caps for the winning teams. Whilst there is certainly much more that can be added to this summation of Keith’s list of achievements and support for our Association, I put forward to you that Keith Edward Dudgeon, with his involvement in junior cricket since 1972, some 42 years, is very much deserving of Life Membership of the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association and I am personally delighted to nominate him this evening.

17 2013 Steve Casey

Steve has been coaching at Albany Creek Cricket Club since 1999 when his oldest son, Scott started playing cricket in the U9 Black Hawks.

In 2002/2003, Steve volunteered as one of the club’s Brisbane North Delegates. I am happy to be corrected, but I can’t recall Steve missing a Delegates meeting since.

In 2004/2005, Steve added the Vice-President’s hat to his many roles at Albany Creek Cricket Club and also took over the running of the Ian Healy Cup for Brisbane North.

In 2005/2006 that hat changed to President at Albany Creek.

As a teacher, Steve was wondering how to fill in his holidays so, in 2005, he also undertook the Manager duties of the U15 Brisbane North Development team.

Then he moved to the coach position of the U16 Development team in 2006.

Steve then had a few years away from rep cricket to concentrate on running the Ian Healy cup on behalf of Brisbane North and then he coached the U12 Championship teams in 2011.

He backed up again in 2012, and they came away with the State Championship.

Steve and his lovely wife Kathy are still running the Ian Healy cup for Brisbane North and the competition has become a real stepping stone for young cricketers in their cricketing journey.

Thanks Steve and congratulations; a very worthy recipient of Life Membership.

16 2009 Michael Skinner

Life Membership is the greatest honour any Association can bestow upon a person. Tonight the Management Committee is nominating Michael Skinner to the Delegates.

Michael first became involved in the Albany Creek Cricket Club in 1998 and began coaching in 2000. He was an active member of the committee from 2003 to 2007 performing a number of roles including Vice President, President and Secretary.

He commenced as an Albany Creek delegate to BNJCA in 2005/2006. In 2005/2006, Albany Creek Cricket Club awarded Michael the treasured Clubman Award for his tireless activities involving not only the club but the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association.

In 2006-2007 Mick was elected to the BNJCA Management Committee as Treasurer a position he still holds.

Michael was given Life Membership of Albany Creek Cricket Club in June 2008

Also over the last few years Michael has been a selector for Brisbane North Representative teams and spends many hours assisting in other tasks for Albany Creek and Brisbane North.

Michael has been the Cricket Coordinator at St Paul’s School for the last few years.

For the last four years, Michael has been the convenor of the QJC U16 Intra-State Championships at the Brisbane Grammar School grounds. Michael’s son is now past the junior grades but Michael is still involved in cricket. At the Brisbane North Trophy presentation night he was presented with a Queensland Junior Cricket Appreciation Award for services to Junior Cricket.

Gentlemen, I have great pleasure on behalf of the Management Committee in nominating Michael Skinner for Life Membership of the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association.

15 2008 Michael Mainhardt

Some background on Michael. He arrived in Brisbane at the age of 18 from Clermont in 1978, for those not aware it is between Emerald and Mackay in Central Queensland, to play grade cricket with Northern Suburbs Cricket Club (Norths). Actually he was recruited by the club.

Season-1978-79, I quote Norths website
The club’s second gain for this season was a young speedster from Clermont, Michael Mainhardt, right arm fast medium, who in his first season took 42 wickets, 32 in first grade at 20.15. Michael lived up to the potential he displayed and on his retirement, after a total of 147 matches in first grade, had 336 wickets to his credit at the healthy average of 25.63. From there he was selected to represent Queensland.
Season 1987-88
This season saw Club history for Norths made when Ian Healy was selected to represent Australia on a tour to Pakistan and Michael Mainhardt was selected in the Australian Aboriginal team which toured England in June in the Bicentenary Year.

Michael has also been involved with Indigenous cricket for some time selecting teams and finally taking the role of Coach of the team this past season when he coached the Queensland team in the Imparja Cup winning the National Title.

However “Ducko” as he is best known, he might. I hope, explain the origin of the nickname to us tonight did not rest on his representative laurels he decided to become involved in Junior Cricket when his son Ben commenced playing Under 10s with Wilston-North Junior Cricket Club in 1998.  He decided to put something back into the game he loves and the game that gave him many life opportunities.  Michael coached a junior team at Wilston-North each year from 1998 through to 2004.  He served on the Wilston-North Executive from 2000 to 2004 in the positions of Junior or Senior Vice-President.  He has coached the Norths Lords Taverners team since its inception in Season 1991 / 1992.

He first became involved with the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association back in 2001 taking the Under 13 Championship Team to Maryborough winning the State Championships and has continued his involvement since with selection and coaching of Brisbane North teams even after his son Ben had moved into Senior Cricket.  Michael last Season coached our Under 16 Representative team to win the State Championships undefeated.

He has travelled quite a bit with the teams:-

2001 – U13 – Maryborough – State Champions

2002 – U14 – Charters Towers

2003 – U15 – Toowoomba

2004 – U14 – Charters Towers

2005 – U15 – Bundaberg

2006 – U15 – M S West – Griffith University

2007 – U16 – Brisbane North (Northgate) – State Champions (Undefeated)

On a lighter note I was going to say he is a very quietly spoken man, which he is, however, as I have found out with a couple of Bundies under his belt the stories do have a tendency to rise to the surface.

Like all Life Members Michael always has the best interest and concern for our young cricketers in Brisbane North both at Club and Association level.  He has been and always will be, a great ambassador for Junior cricket.

14 2007 David Philp

David has been Chairman of Selectors for U-12 Age Group for five years.

He has been coaching at Toombul Cricket Club since 1998.

He has developed a selection process considered to be the optimum procedure for assessing players for the first year of representative cricket and he has coached our U-12 Championships team with great success for six years.

13 2006 Bryan Hessey (Dec’d)

Bryan was appointed BNJCA Chairman of the Rules Committee in 2000. He rewrote the Rules into a readable format and was responsible for Rules publication. He also oversaw the development of the BNJCA Constitution and was responsible for effecting necessary changes to both.

Bryan served as BNJCA Treasurer from 2001 – 2005.
He introduced MYOB accounting for the Association and ensured the transparency of the BNJCA finances. He was also responsible for Convening Disciplinary Committees during the period 2000 – 2005.

He relinquished the Treasurer’s office in 2005 but continued to make himself available to deal with any MYOB or Excel spread sheet problems which may be encountered.

12 2005 Bruce Boland

Bruce has been involved in cricket for many years, commencing with the Albany Creek Cricket Club.

Bruce joined the ACCC executive committee as Secretary, South Pine Sports Association Delegate, Newsletter editor, Webmaster and anything else that needed to be done

He remained 4 years as ACCC Secretary up until 2001/2002 when he became Vice President in 2002/2003. The club grew from 11 teams to 24 teams over this time. He was the manager of the first ACCC U16 team to tour England in 2002.

During his time at Albany Creek Cricket Club the club hosted the Ian Healy Cup Carnival from its commencement in 1999. Bruce has been involved in running the Carnival on behalf of BNJCA for the past 6 years.

Bruce has been involved in the BNJCA Draw process from 1999. In 2002, he designed and installed a BNJCA web site and instigated all BNJCA junior clubs corresponding by email with the BNJCA Secretary.

Bruce was awarded the 2003 Sports Administrator Award on Australia Day.

11 2004 Cec Anstey OAM (Dec’d)

Your executive Committee has much pleasure in nominating Mr. Cec Anstey OAM, for Life Membership of our Association. Life Membership is the greatest honour an Association can bestow upon a person. I feel most humble, extremely privileged and very proud that I have the opportunity to propose to you the nomination of Cec Anstey for Life Membership of the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association.

First of all Cec, I would like to wish you a belated happy birthday on the occasion of your 93rd birthday, which you celebrated on the 14th June.

It was around 1990 when I became involved in Senior Grade cricket that the name Anstey first came to my notice. Cec Anstey and his mate Errold La Frantz were the driving force behind Toombul District Cricket Club and at that time Cec was Vice President of Queensland Cricket. These two were always present at the various delegate meetings and held in very high esteem by the their peers in the Queensland cricket fraternity. However, it was not until Ray Wonnacott gave me some old junior “Zone 1” minute books that the realisation started to dawn as to what an enormous part Cec played in the formation of Junior Cricket in Queensland.

Then when we realised that organised Saturday morning junior cricket was celebrating 30 years, it all flowed from there. Casual visits to the Anstey and La Frantz households began to reveal an incredible story of a man who has dedicated his life to a diverse range of community organisations.

In his younger years, a top all round sportsman, Cec represented Warwick at cricket and captained the side for many years. He also played “A” grade cricket at Souths. He played representative Rugby League and distinguished himself at Hockey, by not only playing for Queensland for a number of seasons but also by being selected and playing for Australia. The highlight of his Hockey career was his selection in an Australian Olympic team. Unfortunately, these Olympics never eventuated because of World War II. All this is a proud record indeed.

But for Cec it did not end there. He had been very active on many committees and this continued when he was transferred to Brisbane from Warwick by the Education Department. He was the first Principal of Wavell High School. He was also the first Registrar of the Queensland Institute of Technology putting in place the processes and procedures. He was Registrar from 1967 to 1975.

His move to Brisbane was to the benefit of Toombul District Cricket Club where he took on the role of President in 1971 and served in that role until 1980.

It was during this period that he questioned why other sports had organised junior competitions but none was existent for cricket. So in 1972, with Cec Anstey as Chairman, the Toombul District Cricket Junior Cricket Competition was formed to provide organised Saturday morning cricket fixtures for juniors. In the first season thirty-two teams participated. With the competition up and running the Brisbane Junior Cricket Association was formed with Cec Anstey as Chairman. He also initiated the formation of the Queensland Junior Cricket Association.

Cec was given Life Membership of Toombul District Cricket Club in 1977 and Life Membership of Queensland Cricket in 1983.

Cec was an elected Vice President of Queensland Cricket from 1981 to 2002 when he stood down.

He is a Life Member of both the Warwick Hockey Association and Warwick Cricket Association.

He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1995 for his services to cricket. He was the recipient of the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and just recently received the Centenary Medal for his services to the community. The community service, well that is another story in itself and I won’t go into that here tonight, sorry Cec.

His drive, enthusiasm and energy to see his dreams come true is astounding.

Cec, you must be a very proud man today to see what your cricket dream has achieved.

Cec, if I may I would like to bestow on you the mantle of “Father of Queensland Junior Cricket”. It is thanks to you and your foresight, energy and drive and love of the game of cricket that we are here tonight as the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association.

Cec Anstey, it is with great pleasure that I put forward your nomination of Life Membership of the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association.

10 2003 Basil Wright

Our retiring President Mr Basil Wright (1999/2000 to 2005/2006) was elected to the presidency back in 1999.  Basil was given Life Membership of the Association in 2003.  During his seven years in office Basil has led the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association into a new era.

He certainly has been busy and progressive and has introduced to the operation of the Association the following:-

  • The BNJCA Web Site
  • The formalisation of all the BNJCA Policy and Procedures
  • The new Draw press and policy
  • Formation of the Grants Committee
  • Documented and introduced the Brisbane North selection policy and process
  • Use of independent selectors for representative teams selection
  • The introduction of the Spirit of Cricket Award in 2003
  • Saturday afternoon cricket for the early fixture games for the Half Season Competition

The dictionary describes “President” as a person who is in charge of a meeting, certainly not Basil; he used his energies by becoming very much involved in all the activities of the Association.

To quote Sir Donald Bradman, “We are all temporary custodians of the game of cricket.  It is the responsibility of the current players to ensure the game is left in a better state than when they played.”  That has epitomised Basil’s attitude to his duties for BNJCA as evidenced by the vast array of administrative and technological advances that have been introduced during Basil’s presidency.

Basil we salute you for your vision, your dedication, your passion, your energy and your professionalism in the way you have carried out the onerous duties associated with the position of President of BNJCA.

9 2002 Ian Reeves OAM

Ian has been involved with Valley District Cricket Club for many years and was a life member of their club in 2000 and also received the Australian Sports Medal in 2000.

Ian was a Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association Delegate for Valleys from 1998 – 2000 and Vice President in 2001.

He has been a selector of BNJCA Representative Teams from 1997 to present and has been a Coach of BNJCA Representative Teams:
Under 12 1998 Development team
Under 13 1999 Development team
Under 14 2000 Development team
Under 15 2001 Development team

Ian has been a Delegate to Queensland Junior Cricket from 2001 and the Championship Coordinator of Under 16 QJC Intra-State Championships in 2000, 2001. Ian has also been a Delegate to QCA for 6 years – 1994/95 to 2001

8 2001 Errold La Frantz MBE (Dec’d)

Errold La Frantz and his mate Cec Anstey were the driving force behind Toombul District Cricket Club. These two were always present at the various delegate meetings and held in very high esteem by their peers in the Queensland cricket fraternity.

On 30 August 1972, Errold was at the inaugural meeting which formed the Junior Cricket competition in North Brisbane. During the 1973/74 season the Brisbane Junior Cricket Association and the Queensland Junior Cricket Association were formed.

He was awarded an MBE in 1977 for services to cricket and he has Life membership of Queensland Cricket and Toombul District Cricket Club. He was the recipient of the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and he received Life membership of Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association in 2001.

Errold’s contribution to cricket has been immense, but his greatest legacy is the generations of young cricketers that now play the game.

Life membership awarded in Zone 1 (Toombul), Zone 2 (Valley/Norths) & Zone 6 (Sandgate/Redcliffe) prior to the inception of BNJCA Inc. are recognised as life members with BNJCA.

3 1992 Roger Harris (Dec’d)
On behalf of the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association family I would like to pay tribute to a man who has devoted nearly 30 years of his life to the administration of junior cricket in Queensland. As I said Junior cricket, this does not include all the years he played cricket. Neither does it include all the years he was the driving force behind the Norths club in Grade cricket.

That man is Roger Harris.

Prior to 1972, Junior Cricket was played in Brisbane and Country areas of Queensland under semi-organised programs with little organised coaching. In that year 1972, a meeting was held and the Toombul Junior Cricket Competition commenced. During the 1973/1974 season there was a meeting with the Queensland Cricket Association, Country Junior Cricket representatives and persons interested in club cricket for juniors in Brisbane. The idea was to form a governing body to control Junior cricket in this state. The outcome was the birth of the Queensland Junior Cricket, which had Brisbane Junior Cricket Association and Queensland Country Junior Association as affiliated bodies. Yes Roger was present at all these meetings and at the forefront actively involved.

In 1974 Zone 2 Valleys / Norths was formed. Roger Harris was the initial Secretary for the Zone. Roger was made a Life Member of Zone 2 in 1991. Prior to that he received Life Membership from Queensland Cricket in 1986. He is also a life member of Queensland Junior Cricket and was a life member of the now defunct Brisbane Junior Cricket Association. When Zone 1 and Zone 2 were merged to form the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association in 1997 Roger was given Life Membership. One could write a book about Roger’s lifetime involvement in cricket and it would finish even thicker than the book “War and Peace”. However tonight it has been a very précised story.

Roger it must give you great satisfaction after all your hard work and dedication over the many years to see that in Season 2001/2002, this current season, 14 Clubs affiliated with the Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association fielding 184 teams, providing over 2000 youngsters the opportunity to play cricket. A far cry from when you first became involved in Junior Cricket in Brisbane.

Roger you have devoted virtually all your life to cricket in the state of Queensland and it must give you great satisfaction to see your dream come true.

Roger would you come forward please and accept this token of appreciation from Brisbane North Junior Cricket for your years of services to junior cricket in Queensland.

Roger passed away in 2017.
